January 2021
The Wicklow County Council Tidy Towns, Estates and Environmental Awards for 2020 were announced yesterday. Thanks to Jim for organising it, i know all of the groups appreciate the effort he puts into supporting the different towns involved every year. It was a challenging year for all for different reasons, and for those involved in Tidy Towns there was the disappointment of seeing the national Tidy Towns awards cancelled for the first time ever. And with all the restrictions in place through 2020 it was a difficult year to deliver on planned projects so many were scrapped and pushed to 2021/2022. Locally we still enjoyed some good results, 3rd in Large Towns Main Streets, it was someone else’s turn after winning it for 3 in a row The Reservoir Cogs Cycling Club were winners in the Waste Minimisation Award for the greening of their annual Reservoir dog event, great job by all involved
The small garden developed near the play ground was commended in the Landscaping Award, well done to the Blessington Access Group, the Blessington & District Forum and ourselves in Blessington Tidy Towns for delivering this little gem. Our estates faired well also, with awards going to Ashton, Burgage Manor Residents Association and Oak Drive. So not a bad return for the year that was in it. Tidy Towns are seeking more members and if you’d like to get involved or have project ideas please do get in touch! Thanks BTT
