Sustainability & Resource Management

Sustainability

In Blessington Tidy Towns we have been working to do more with less and be sustainable, not demanding more resources from the Earth. We have been involved in numerous upcycling projects, have a look here.

We undertook an up-cycled logs to planters project, from felled trees on a recent development. Sadly we could not save the trees. So we got some of the logs and recycled them to flower planters, big thanks to Murphys Bar for all the help transporting and Tom Phibbs for the Top Soil.

A glimpse at some up-cycling projects. It’s always fun and interesting to look back on all the up-cycling work we do. A big favourite with our team, who will ever forget was our Minions. Thanks to Jason, Paul T, Eileen and Noreen for all the hard work

Thank you to Eileen and Noreen, our long standing Committee members for this beautiful up-cycling project all made for recycled cans and materials. Eileen patiently crafted these over the winter months and they really look beautiful, bright and vibrant. They have been added to various planting locations around Blessington as Mini Bug Hotels. Well done Eileen & Noreen!!

Blessington Tidy Towns partnered with Blessington District Forum and Blessington Tourist Office to offer the community the first Christmas Jumper Swap Shop. It was very successful. The community were invited to drop off their clean undamaged Christmas Jumper inspected at the Tourist Office, they then collected a Swap Shop Voucher and came back on the 25/11/24 to collect their nearly “New” Christmas Jumper, just in time for the Santa truck which arrived in the town that evening. Thank you to everyone involved any unclaimed jumpers were donated to local charity.
