Poster Competition 2023

Blessington Tidy Towns (BTT) ran a poster competition in Spring 2023 to raise awareness about nature, biodiversity, and climate change, involving Blessington Community College (BCC) and each of the local national schools. Receiving over 200 entries from all of the schools in the area indicates a widespread interest in the competition and the subject matter. It’s commendable to involve the community at large, including younger students, in initiatives that promote environmental awareness and action. Overall, the Blessington Tidy Towns poster competition has been a successful event, showcasing the talent and dedication of the students while raising awareness about important environmental issues. It’s a testament to schools commitment to sustainability and the involvement of the younger generation in shaping a better future for us all.

Blessington Community College

On Wednesday 31st May, Noreen Keegan Kavangh, BTT Secretary announced the winners at a class assembly in BCC. Noreen thanked the school and teachers for encouraging the students to participate in the competition and reflect on the challenges the world faces with climate change etc. Noreen also reminded everyone that the judging is commencing for the Supervalu Tidy Towns completion and to be mindful of their environment and surroundings now and over the coming few months. The participation of 63 entrants alone from the BCC Junior Cycle shows the level of engagement and interest of the students in these important topics that will determine our future. With such exceptional entries, the judging process was challenging to ay the least… and instead of just a single prize we ended up with four!! Congratulations to the four winners: Tessa Karels, Anna White, Noah Ryan Melia, and Shannon Raftery, who were all from 3rd year, their creativity and effort in addressing the theme of “Nature, Biodiversity, and Climate Change, What can we do?” really addressed the issue. It’s inspiring to see these young students actively exploring ways to make a positive impact on the environment. The prizes of vouchers, with a total vaue of €150, are a great way to recognize and reward the winners for their outstanding work. Such incentives can motivate and encourage continued participation and enthusiasm among all of the students. We also wanted to acknowledge and thank all of the students who entered the competition, some of the art work was stunning.
