December 2025 We were nominated for a Community Action Award in December by Clean Coasts. Blessington Tidy Towns were established 2012, and since then they have made a real difference to their local town and environment. Recognising that 80% of marine litter comes from inland sources, Blessington Tidy Towns joined Clean Coasts to help protect and preserve the waterways, rivers and lakes in their area and prevent pollution traveling downstream to the sea.
Blessington Tidy Towns show a great example of collaborative, environmental action and initiatives, with the community participating in the #2-Minute-Street-Clean campaign and their innovative “Take 4 the Lake” project which fosters a strong sense of community pride and environmental responsibility. They also helped to introduce the “2GoCup” initiative in the town to combat single-use plastic coffee cups, accompanied by education and awareness events in the community. Using their experience and success with this project, they have also shared knowledge with other towns to help replicate this sustainable, litter prevention initiative.
