Dispersed Urban Forest

We have a ‘Dispersed Urban Forest’ throughout Blessington , this can be located at this link below.

“A Dispersed Urban Forest is a forest of trees, but not planted all beside each other , the trees are planted in a dispersed area but in total they make up a large number of trees, adding to the biodiversity in the area.”

We are continually planting more and more trees locally and we have now secured funding from the Climate Action Fund to source more trees over the next 12 months. We have planted over the years in excess of 650 native trees around Blessington Demesne. Over 500 native trees alone, along phase 1 of the Blessington Greenway, these trees were planted during National Tree week 2015 and we worked closely in conjunction with the ESB to achieve this.

Please check out the other locations of the current trees in our Dispersed Urban Forest on the Google Maps link, the tree locations are highlighted with a yellow pin to differentiate from other locations in the town. Thank you to all our volunteers for helping us plant these trees , they are great for birds and pollinators alike, and one single tree can take up to 10 KG of Co2 from the atmosphere yearly, not to mention adding the oxygen we breath too.

Recently while working closely with “Blessington Garden Centre” we mapped more trees, on our dispersed urban forest as a large number of native trees were donated to the community and many members of the community were happy to allow us drop a pin at the location the trees were planted to help grow our forest. Watch this space for more developments.
