The ‘Tree-sure Hunt’ is your chance to explore the world around you. Follow Abby – your bee guide – around Blessington to find some native trees. There are 8 trees altogether, spread across 3 green spaces.
All you have to do is get your very own map in Blessington Library and go to the green spaces shown on it. Once you’re there search for the signs of Abby showing you a leaf. Then fill in the grid with a drawing of the leaf and it’s name.
When you’ve found all 8 leaves go back to the library so that you can do the fun activities on the back of the map. You’ll get a chance to decorate the big leaf on the map and hang it on the tree there.
So, head to Blessington Library to pick up your map, and let the search begin!
I made this project because I wanted to connect people with the world around them. I wanted to make a fun, engaging resource for people to identify some native trees and spend time outdoors in doing so.
I wanted the process of the project to be as sustainable as possible. I used a discarded election poster to create the signs. For the tree in the library I used a pringles can, some cardboard ‘waste’, and an old plant pot.
A huge thanks to the Blessington Tidy Towns and Blessington Library for their support, and to Rang a 5 from Gaelscoil na Lochanna for designing the map. Thanks also to the Office Shop for supplying the prize for the map creation. I hope you enjoy Eoin.
