Blessington Tidy Towns is proud to say that we are using our own leaf and mulch compost on our planting throughout the town, thank you to James in Wicklow County Council for the running the training course a few years ago. We took your lead and ran with this a full speed, tricky to do with compost. Thanks to all our volunteers for collecting the leaves every Autumn.
We have recently launched a coffee composting project in the Cafes in Blessington. The simple idea is that the Cafes recycle their coffee grinds, into the bags provided by Blessington Tidy Towns for members of the public free of charge. The community can then enjoy the benefits of top quality nitrogen rich compost for their flower beds whilst reducing landfill. A win win situation. We are very happy to be involved as this liaison between the community and local businesses. Thank you to all the Cafes involved. Pistachio, Moody Rooster, Brew 21 , & VDA to name a few. First come first served, while stocks last.
Coffee grounds are a valuable addition to composting, benefiting both the environment and plants. Here’s why:
- Nutrient-Rich: Coffee grounds are high in nitrogen, an essential nutrient for plant growth. They also contain potassium and
phosphorus vital for healthy plants. - Eco-Friendly: Composting coffee grounds is an environmentally-friendly way to reduce waste. Instead of ending up in landfills, they can be repurposed for gardening.
- Soil Enrichment: When added to compost, coffee grounds improve soil quality. Their fine texture makes them an excellent compost ingredient, especially when mixed with other organic waste.
- Natural Fertilizer: Coffee grounds act as a natural fertilizer, providing essential nutrients to plants. They enhance soil structure and promote overall plant health.
